Cupsleeve events especially for KPOP fandoms have been popular in Malaysia since the year 2018 up til now.

You might be asking what is a ‘cupsleeve event’? It is basically a gathering event for the fans to celebrate their favourite artists’ birthday, debut anniversary, or any special days of their artists. Of course, these events held in any cafes or small restaurants available to host events around Malaysia especially in Kuala Lumpur hotspots like NU Sentral, Sunway Velocity, Bukit Bintang & Avenue K. Cupsleeve events started as a fan culture in South Korea and slowly spread around the world. Fun fact about these events is that the ‘idols’ themselves are absent but there will still be queues of fans lining up in front of the venue.

What should you do in cafe events? Well, basically you just buy a beverage or a set dish (depends on the cafe/restaurant) that they’ve shown in the special menu for the event. Once you’ve paid and received your order, you need to show your receipt of purchase to the organisers which they have a ‘counter’ for it. The organisers will give the cupsleeves (duh), and lots of freebies such as slogans, handfans, photocards, polaroids so much more!

In 2019, was a very busy year for me as I have experienced in organising two cupsleeve events in Kuala Lumpur, and also my hometown, Kota Kinabalu. As I am a fan of BTS, both cupsleeve events I’ve organised were related to them.

1. #LaVieEnVioletinMY @ Nu Sentral, KL & Centre Point Sabah, KK

In celebrating BTS 6th Debut Anniversary, we held a cupsleeve event on 15th June 2019 which me and my team (KL team & KK team) took 3 months before to prepare for this event. This event held simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.

We started to promote this event a month before the event and it gained a lot of attention with 101 Retweets and 109 Likes on Twitter.

Even the shopping mall management, help us to promote the event. Honestly, we were very thankful for this!

On the day, the event only started at 11am but the queue already long with 2 rows at 9am. Due to that, we had to use the number queue system for smoother progress. By the time it begins, BTS fans, ARMY, entered the restaurant (20 customers each batch), and order the set menu provided. We even had a lucky draw session and sing-a-long session as well. The event ended successfully at 3pm with enjoyable memories and happy BTS fans.

September was the busiest month for me, from July to D-Day itself was a journey for our team as we just not plan for a birthday cupsleeve event for BTS Jungkook & RM, but also a mini exhibition & DVD screening as well. This event held in two days, 21st (cupsleeve + DVD screening) & 22nd September 2019 (cupsleeve + mini exhibition).

Thanks to the shopping mall management for offering us to use their commune space for the mini exhibition & DVD screening. By the time the event poster was released on 8th July, it has gained over 97 Retweets and 102 Likes. In the poster itself, it has shown the cupsleeve design preview, and important informations regarding the event. As you can see, the tweet mentioned “Special thanks to” two twitter accounts, which both are fansites of BTS Jungkook & RM, for providing us their magnificent HD photos of the members to be used for the event. From the cupsleeves and freebies, we’ve also open booth vendors for ARMYs to sell their fanart merchandises or other official/unofficial merchandises as well.

I don’t remember the exact date but our head organiser told us that we had a special vendor coming! We were shocked to know that a cosmetic brand, VT Cosmetics that BTS was an ambassador for it will come and sell at our event. Because of that, it gained more attractions for ARMYs to come to our event.
